This was a great little project and the first long turning on the patternmaker’s lathe.
I was lucky enough to get the old post in my hands to ensure a really accurate copy. A story pole was made to locate all the transition points in the turning. Calipers are used to match high and low diameters, and then the shapes are hand turned by eye.

This porch post is laminated from two pieces of Mahogany to form a 6X6.
